Sonic Classic Collection
The DS has received yet another collection and this time it’s everyone’s favorite hedgehog who gets to rush like a blue striped lightning over the screens. And that he does, together with Knuckles of course, as we’re used from back in the days when SEGA was as cool as its icon. That our friend these days only gets to work with his rival Mario or on the Wii or DS is an ironic piece of history.
No sorrow for the fans as the old Sonic games have suffered hardly from the passing of time and are still a lot of fun to play. Yes, the screen is pretty small but the speed is still there, just like the urge to collect and the replayability, and just like when playing Mario you suddenly wonder whether that simple but addictive feeling of “fun” is only nostalgia or that games these days have become too serious.
So the games still feel the same as they did years ago and unfortunately that also has a backdrop. Fans will find little new in this compilation but I’m pretty sure that there are plenty of young and old gamers out there who have never played Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.
On top of that those spoiled newbies and the wussies can now also save their game so that you don’t have to begin from the start each time, and an additional extra is that you can play with Knuckles in Sonic 2 an 3. For the non-Sega adepts: according to Wikipedia this was only possible by putting your cartridge of those games on top of that of the last one in the series. At least everyone can save quite some money from eBay!
Do we need to say a lot more about Sonic Classic Collection? Sonic is extremely well-known, it’s a top platform title, you get four of the best titles of the series on one cartridge and you can now take the blue hedgehog anywhere you want. That’s all we need, I would think! Only fans who have played the games already tons of time will be left sitting on their hunger a bit.
