Damages – Season 2
After having having gotten a billion dollar settlement from Arthur Frobisher, Patty Hewes is looking at what case she’ll do next when a former friend of her, Daniel Purcell, asks for her help.
His wife has been murdered and it seems an energy corporation his company consulted for has something to do with it.
Meanwhile, Ellen Parsons has agreed to stay in the service of Patty and help her out while having all of Patty’s resources at her disposal for finding out who killer her fiancĂ©. What Patty doesn’t know, however, is that Ellen secretly is working for the FBI to bring her down….
Sound and Vision:
Damages works with constant switching in time and this is shown clearly with the images displayed. On one hand there’s the linear story which has natural colors and is very detailed, while when we go forward in time, we get a more grainy look and more saturated colors. This works very well and the overall image quality doesn’t suffer one bit.
The soundtrack is focused towards the front speakers but the rear channels and subwoofer do get attention once action starts happening or for environment sounds and music.
Extras:
– Audio commentary
– Season 1 Recap
– Post Mortem: Reflecting back on Season 2
– Character Profiles
– Deleted scenes
Conclusion:
This second season of Damages continues the style set up in the first season of telling a story through constantly jumping back and forth into time, slowly giving away clues and making plot twists until at the very ending we get to see the full picture.
Thanks to the great acting from the cast this remains a terrific series to check out but unfortunately this second season wraps things up a bit too fast to make it truly great. The entire season slowly unravels the plot, but it’s too much as if the makers had gone so slow that they found themselves with only one episode left to finish the season and had to implement a sudden shift of pace to end it which makes it feel a bit rushed.
Still, all in all, Damages remains fun to watch, contains plenty of tension, has again a ton of plot twists, and we can’t wait for season 3 to appear on DVD!
