Movie:
Three students decide to go to Daytona beach for their holidays but thanks to a detour they end up in a small town called Pleasant Valley that's in the middle of a celebration. Together with 6 other youngsters that ended up there, they're immediately bombarded as the guests of honor for the annual "Guts and Glory" barbecue but what they don't know is that they are on the menu...
 
Sound and Vision:
There's some grain and damage present from the original source and also compression errors aren't absent. Often the film looks a bit too digital and lacks detail. It's clear that the master copy for this DVD was in quite bad shape already and this really affects the overall image quality.

We get both a Dolby Digital 5.1 and a DTS track that unfortunately sound like an enhanced Dolby Digital 2.0 track. Yes, there's some good use of the surround speakers but the detail in the sound is sometimes way off and you'll be hearing people laughing in the back while they're standing in the front. Overall the sound is reasonable, but not as good as it could have been.

Conclusion:
2001 Maniacs is made by the creators of Hostel and Cabin Fever and I could have guessed what to expect by that. If you remember my review of Hostel, you know I stated it's filled with sex and gore and you can expect the same with this one.

Unfortunately, while Hostel had a pretty decent plot, 2001 Maniacs never manages to impress or even surprise.
There's no surprises, no tension and the only thing left to do is watch people get slaughtered in hardly original ways.

Overall a very mediocre movie and DVD release that may be fun for the fans of the genre but that's it.
