Movie:
When a bunch of criminals start ending up at the morgue, Harry Callahan at first doesn't really care about what's going on. After all, due to his violent behaviour he's been taken off homicide cases.

This changes, however, when a colleague of his gets killed in the process. He starts investigating the matter and quickly finds out that there's multiple killers going around and to make things worse: it looks like they might be cops...

Sound and Vision:
Considering the age of the movie (it dates from 1973) the image quality is excellent. The image has been completely digitally remastered from the original negative and compression errors are completely absent. Also some color corrections have been done but overall the film still nicely displays the time period of the movie. There are hardly any damages visible on this blu-ray and we can only conclude by saying that this is the best transfer we've ever seen of Magnum Force.

The sound originated from a mono track and has also been completely remastered. Additional effects have been added and overall this results in a very dynamic track that can stand next to many modern movies. Excellent job!

Extras:
Before we start with the extras we want to mention that there's no main menu and the movie immediately starts. You'll have to use a pop-up menu to set up the sound and subtitles.

- Behind The Story: Commentary By John Milius: audio commentary track by writer John Milius

- A Moral Right: The Politics Of Dirty Harry: recent feature that lasts for almost half an hour and has several people from inside the movie industry talking about iconic characters from movies compared to the current political class in the US with a special focus on Dirty Harry characters

- The Hero Cop Yesterday And Today: 8 minute feature where we get some behind the scenes footage and a comparison between things from American history and the movie

- Trailers

Conclusion:
We can be very quick in our conclusion: this is the best transfer of Magnum Force we've ever seen and if you like the movie this is the version to get.

PRO

  • Excellent image & sound quality seeing the age of the movie
  • Some nice extras

CON
