Movie:
Betty Suarez is smart, kind-hearted and hard working, but not beautiful and thin. In her new job as assistent to the editor-in-chief of fashion magazine 'Mode', that makes her the weird one, because in the eyes of her co-workers external beauty matters the most.

After a while Betty manages to earn the respect of many people at Mode because of her kind nature and the stubborn way in which she solves big problems and consequently more than once saves the day for Mode.

However, more (personal) problems and bitchy take-over plans are luring around the corner...

Sound and Vision:
There are no problems with sound or vision, everything looks and sounds as it is supposed to. A good job is done on the green screen scenes, only when wathing the featurette covering that subject, it becomes clear to what extent the green screen was really used. Generally the difference between green screen or not was not noticeable.

Extras:
-Three Featurettes
-Bloopers
-Deleted scenes
-Commentary tracks

This might not seem to be a lot at first sight, but these extras actually provide interesting information about the making-of and behind the scenes things.

Conclusion:
Ugly Betty surprised me in a positive way. I expected it to be some kind of soap with exaggerated situations, but it turned out to be a very amusing series. There were still some exaggerated things, but not that much. At first the story line seems a bit predictable, but eventually it seems that the writers prefer strange plot twists. Surprising, yes, but also a bit far-fetched at times. Other times some good drama is not far away.

The witty and to the point dialogues are one of the series' strong points, together with good acting performances of the main cast, providing enough chances to really laugh or smile. It's still not the greatest series ever or somehting like that, but it manages to keep one interested and amused, and therefore it is certainly worth watching it.

PRO

  • Amusing
  • Good acting
  • Witty and to the point dialogues
  • Decent extras

CON

  • Strange plot twists
