Dying Breed Uncut – 2 Disc SE
Nina and her boyfriend Matt decide to go on an expedition together with Jack and his girlfriend Rebecca. The idea is to follow the footsteps of Nina’s deceased sister in Tasmania and try to find proof that the so-called extinct Tasmanian tiger is still very much alive. What they don’t know, however, is that Tasmania was once the land of Alexander “Pieman” Pearce, a convicted murderer who managed to survive in the harsh environment by cannibalism. In fact, he managed to live long enough to breed offspring that has inherited his taste for human flesh…
Sound and Vision:
The movie has been transferred onto DVD pretty well. There are no compression errors and the only minor downpoint is that the contrast is a bit dark in the night scenes so that it’s hard to follow what’s going on at times.
The soundtrack also does a nice job with good use of the surround speakers and subwoofer.
Extras:
– Audio commentary track
– Making Of
– Interviews
– Deleted scenes
A pretty standard package of extras
Conclusion:
Dying Breed is an Australian horror movie that takes parts from Deliverance, Wrong Turn and The Hills have Eyes and mashes everything together. Sound bad? Well it isn’t.
The director manages to put everything together so that it becomes a convincing piece of work that has a couple of nice scare moments while the acting of the cast and the plot twists do the rest. The movie isn’t really unpredictable but how many horror movies are these days? Not a lot and as such one really shouldn’t hold it against this movie.
Dying Breed is made of a bunch of pretty standard elements and the director has crafted it together so that it becomes a decent movie. It’s got everything you want from a horror movie and manages to keep you cluttered to the screen up to the very last moment. Good stuff for the fans!
