Far Cry Instincts Predator

Jack Carver had taken care of everything. His own boat and buisness, now and then a costumer to sail alongside the islands, sun and sea, beach and especially doing nothing while toerists tire themselves with deep-sea diving and taking pictures. But a game hero had to know better. His last trip, with indeed a very handsome photographer, becomes chaotic when mercenaries blow up his ship.

That explosion isn’t enough for them. They kidnap the photographer and inject Jack with a kind of poison that changes him in some sort of Hulk, but with other powers than becoming green. The only thing to do for Jack is to escape from the gunfire and swim to the coast.

The beautiful jungle, panoramas never seen before included, rustling trees and high grass, coconuts and the sun shining through the leaf won’t set you at rest. What follows is less exotic : enemies who turn up everywhere and want you dead, in nature, but also in the villages, labs and other buildings.

In other words, first-person shooting like we know it on the consoles, with a great deal of weapons, but also some nice stealth elements (like cutting someone’s throat with your knife) and the possibility to place some nasty traps. It doesn’t end there, there are also levels with vehicles and halfway the game the transformation (new moves included) to some kind of wild human animal.

The setting allows some refreshing gameplay, with not a remarkable smart A.I., but thanks to the large areas (sniping is cool !), the patrols and the freedom (surprise your adversaries and attack them from behind, sail with your little boat where-ever you want, etc.) Newbies in the franchise will be pleasantly surprised.

Action all the way, and it’s only near the end of the game you’ll get déjà-vu feelings. I won’t tell more about the story, but a succesful addition to Far Cry are your Feral Powers. For instance, you’ll be able to see in the dark, to follow traces of sent or heath and attack and jump as far as a muscled tiger.

In comparison with the Xbox game (Far Cry Instincts) there’s nothing new under the burning sun. The graphics are of course somewhat nicer, and the setting is so tempting you really thing you’re on a tropical island, but technical it’s an improved version and no real next-gen graphical experience like for instance Advanced Warfighter. Therefor it will be the extra episode ‘Evolution’ which will urge veterans to buy something.

Far Cry Instincts Predator is simply an absolute must for FPS fans who have never played Far Cry. With the extra content of Instincts and the new Evolution-episode veterans will have fun too. On top of that the wonderful, original and exotic environments provided with a lot of freedom, you’ll forget the nice weather outside. Sunny action !
