Felon
Wade Porter is a succesful man. He’s got a great family and is about to expand his business when one night he wakes up to realise there’s a burglar in his home. Instead of staying in the bedroom and calling the police, he takes his baseball bat and goes looking for the criminal. When he scares the thief, he runs after him and outside manages to catch up to him but when he swings his bat things turn for the worse. The guy gets hit at the back of his head and doesn’t survive his injuries. As this happened outside of the house and the guy wasn’t carrying any weapons, Wade gets sent to court where he gets sentenced to three years in a heavily guarded prison.
On the way to prison, Wade sees one of the fellow inmates getting killed but when he gets questioned in prison by the guards he decides not to say anything about what he saw, resulting in him getting transferred to the worst part of the prison where he gets to share a cell with mass murderer John Smith. As time goes by, Wade gets to see how the guards abuse their power and it becomes clear he won’t be getting out on parole anytime soon.
Sound and Vision:
Felon has decent image quality with plenty of detail and no compression artefacts that spoil the fun too much. There’s some minor grain present here and there but nothing too bothering.
The movie is centered mostly around dialogue but the action scenes do get decent support from the surround speakers and subwoofer.
Extras:
- The Shark Tank: an inside look at Felon
A pretty standard behind the scenes look at the movie. Nothing really special
Conclusion:
Felon is quite an interesting movie that shows different aspects of prison life while not going down the path of “Prison Break”. Stephen Dorff and Val Kilmer perform nicely, making this film rise up above average. The fact that it’s based on real events of course gives the movie that extra bit of credibility
Felon is a small movie that will probably go unnoticed by the general public but it surely is worth checking out.
