Brixout XP
![]()
In the fiercely competitive race among Breakout and Arkanoid clones, Russian developer Sunny Games' Brixout XP stands well above the pack. When I first tried it, the gorgeous 3D graphics, crystal clear sound and perfectly tuned gameplay blew me away. The advanced 3D engine sports 32-bit color in resolutions from 640x480 to 2048x1536, surface shaders, environment and specular mapping, deformable meshes, real-time lighting and particle effects such as colored smoke, sparks, bubbles and explosions. You work your way through 80 unique levels in four distinctive worlds, encountering over 20 kinds of power-ups and 30 types of bricks as you go along. There's joystick and gamepad support, multiplayer competition among up to four players in Hot Seat Mode, and you can make your own levels and download free add-on packs. To accommodate differences in skill, four levels of difficulty are available. Smashing blocks with a ball has never been so much fun.
