Gravedancers 2-disc SE

Harris, Kira and Sid meet each other again when one of their best friends dies. After the funeral, the three decide to go back to the graveyard to pay their last respects with a party. Completely drunk, they find a card on Devin’s grave and after reading it out loud, they start dancing on a couple of gravestones. However, the card contains an ancient spell and soon after, strange things start to happen. It isn’t before long that they figure out that what they’ve done is wake up ancient souls that are now after them and won’t rest until they’re all dead…

Sound and Vision:
The image contains some slight edge enhancement but for the rest we didn’t spot any problems. The layer change is a bit noticeable but not too bad. The contrast is quite high and the colors are leaning towards pastel all the time. The CGI effects are quite funny but all in all we can’t complain too much.

The soundtrack is very good with lots of use of surround channels for effects and positioning while dialogues are at all times clear and understandable.

Extras:
The nice steelbook box from Dutch Filmworks tells us that we should get two nice features called “Poltergeist” and “Spontaneous Human Combustion” which kinda go nicely with this movie. However, instead our box contained the extras that can also be found on the second disk of Underworld: Director’s Cut, namely “Extreme Sacrifice” and “The Vampire Myth”. Did Dutch Filmworks make the mistake only in our box or is it so in every?

Anyway, both features are reasonably interesting but clearly have nothing in common with The Gravedancers.

Conclusion:
The Gravedancers is a reasonably decent poltergeist-like horror flic that fans of the genre will definitely appreciate. The acting is decent for what you can expect from such a movie and the storyline is simple but with enough plot twists to keep the viewer interested. Dutch Filmworks delivers good image and sound quality but unfortunately we didn’t get the extras that were promised on the back cover but instead a couple we had already seen with the special edition of Underworld Director’s Cut.

Our Score:
5.0
