Guitar Hero
Rocking is cool, everybody who ever banged his head knows this. For all those who dream to be just like those guitar gods, and for once to be worshipped by thousands of fans, Guitar Hero will sound as music to their ears!
The first and immediately the most important aspect which makes Guitar Hero so much fun is the fact that after a few notes you get the impression you really can play the guitar ! Thanks to the solid, somewhat smaller replica of the Gibson SG guitar as a controller, you will think you’re cooler than Axl Rose on ice ! Moreover this toy sucks you right into the game. Admirable is the fact you’ll never catch me with SingStar and that ridiculous microphone, but this guitar felt good after a few embarrassing minutes. Rock !
The way you play is brilliant in its simplicity: you get a ‘strum’, to strike the chords, a ‘whammy-bar’ to show off and five so-called ‘fret buttons’ to choose the tone. On your screen you get to see on a passing bar which combination of fret buttons you have to press and what moment exactly you have to strike the strings. With a few easy tutorials you will have mastered it quickly, but trust me if I tell you you won’t be able to follow in expert mode. The difficulty level is perfect : easy in the beginning, then more difficult and more difficult until almost impossible. This makes the game as accesible as addictive, a family game but also a game that will appeal to rhythm game haters like myself!
So the gameplay is good, the soundtrack is too. With a selection of more than 30 rock songs the makers succeed in giving everybody what he wants. Although the songs are covered and consequently you don’t hear the original version, is the quality very strong. There are both classics (Ace of Spades, I love Rock & Roll, Smoke on the Water, …) and modern songs (Take Me Out, Fat Lip, Cochise, ..) available, even if you don’t know them they’re fun to hear and play.
Even better is the conclusion that you feel the adrenalin flow after a few notes. Play the song well, play the notes perfectly and quickly you’re in the illusion you’re on stage and letting the audience going crazy. On top of that it’s you who makes or brakes the song and consequently even the guitarnoob will get the impression he can play music, and well too! With SingStar your’re still singing out of tune, with Guitar Hero… you are the hero.
If you’re still not convinced about the qualities of this game, I’ll give you some more reasons. You get a great deal of unlockable extras (like new characters, guitars, songs, etc.), you get stickers to stick on your guitar, you play in increasingly cooler and bigger tents and concert halls, the presentation is excellent and funny, the music shouts out of your boxes and if you manage to get hold of two guitars, you can play against each other.
Guitar Hero is incredible fun and will really appeal everybody, from even the most seasoned hardcore gamer to the oldest granny. The guitar controller in combination with the excellent tracks and the way your prestation can be heard immediately, lets the adrenalin flow like never before. This game gives you the feeling to be a real rockgod and that alone is sufficient to buy it. And now I’m going to practise some more on that solo !
