Lost – Season 5

At the end of season 4, it became clear that several people have managed to get away from the island but season 5 shows this is not how things should have gone. Ben left the island but that results in those left behind starting to move through time with ever increasing physical issues that will ultimately result in imminent death if no solution is found. Therefore, John Locke sacrifices himself in order to get the Oceanic Six to return to the island and set things straight. But when they return, it’s not what they expected…

Sound and Vision:
If you’re looking for top notch quality on image and sound for a TV show, LOST season 5 has it on Blu-ray. Detail, sharpness, colors and texture all are great. Only minor details are that grain and lack of contrast tend to degrade the image a bit in darker scenes.

The soundtrack does equally well and can easily take on several big budget movies with plenty of detail and good use of the surround speakers and subwoofer. Nice!

Extras:
– Lost on Location
– Building 23 & Beyond
– An Epic Day with Richard Alpert
– Making up for LOST time
– Mysteries of the Universe: The DHARMA Initiative
– Bloopers
– Deleted Scenes
– Audio Commentary
– Lost 100

Plenty of extras to please the fans.

Conclusion:
Lost has been a confusing series from day one and season 5 isn’t making things easier. After polar bears, smoke monsters, scientists and “others” we now not only have to wonder about where the island is but also “when”. Indeed, after the flashbacks and flash forwards from season 4 we now get time travel throughout the entire season which makes it even harder to keep up the pace. Still, despite that many people will no doubt drop out again and lots of criticism is given on the sudden twists that make it even harder to follow what’s going on than it was ever before, the die-hard followers will only be compelled more than ever to find out what the end will be.

No matter how insane LOST has become as a series due to its constant twists, it remains great entertainment that constantly tries to put you on the wrong leg.
