Merlin – Season 1
Merlin, a young wizard who had to leave his town because people didn’t understand his abilities, arrives in Camelot where all sorts of magic are banned and punishable by death. Merlin goes living with the king’s doctor, Gaius, who guides and teaches him the things that are important and before long Merlin finds out that he’s got a destiny to protect Uther’s son, prince Arthur.
Sound and Vision:
The image is pretty decent with no compression errors, plenty of detail (for DVD) and everything is up to par with what you can expect from a recent TV show on DVD.
The sound comes with a 2.0 track which does its job nicely but does sound a bit hollow at times.
“Merlin” doesn’t sound so interesting when you first read the back cover and the front cover isn’t so appealing either. Still, much like Smallville tells the story of a young superman pretty decently, Merlin does an at least equally great job.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the interesting storylines being acted by a decent cast, the series having reasonably decent special effects and the whole being glued together with a healthy portion of comedy. The BBC has done a terrific job with Merlin (just like with Doctor Who and Torchwood) and although it remains light food that’s extremely easily digestable, it tastes great!
When will we get to see the second season? I can’t wait already!
