National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Clark Griswold and his family are awaiting a terrific christmas: the lights are put up all over the house, Clark has made a deposit for a new swimming pool and a big christmas bonus will be coming in the mail. Of course, Clark first has to survive Christmas with the parents of himself and his wife and to top things, the rest of the family is knocking on the door as well! To make things even worse, the Christmas lights don’t want to function correctly, the turkey gets burnt, and where the hell is that bonus? Life isn’t easy when you’re a Griswold!

Sound and Vision:
There’s grain, some minor scratches and some edge enhancement, but overall for a movie from 1989 we can’t say the quality is bad. Not good either though…

Same goes for the soundtrack which of course is just a 2.0 track but still manages to squeek out some effects that are reasonable.

Extras:
Audio commentary track and theatrical trailer are all we get

Conclusion:
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a movie that made me laught when I was a kid, but now that I’m almost 30 I must say that I find the comedy to be a bit too slapstick and not really funny anymore. Maybe the kids will still love it though…

Our Score:
5.0
