55% Xbox 360 gamers have bought through Marketplace
According to research firm EEDAR over half of all X360 owners have bought a downloadable game already.
According to EEDAR president and COO Geoffrey Zatkin, no less than 55% of all users have bought a downloadable game from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Once we go to "core genre fans", that number even rises to 64%. And with "core genre fans" they're talking about people who play only one specific genre.
Zatkin predicts a rise of 35% year on year in 2011. With DLC the numbers are a bit different. There 76% of all gamers are aware DLC is available but only 44% actually buy it. 90% of all potential customers are only interested in DLC if it arrives within the first three months after release of the game. Also the game in question needs to score at least 80% or most gamers will stay away from the DLC.
The differences between X360 and PS3 are small, but it does seem Microsoft's console is doing slightly better in digital distribution.
