A different kind of PS3?

Posted on Thursday, 21 December 2006 by Speed, source: joystiq
In his new role as chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Ken Kutaragi talked to the Japanese Impress magazine about an 'AV-centric' PS3.

This device, driven by the Cell-processor, would get the shape of other audio/video devices like DVD recorders or receivers, would have a stronger power supply, double the amount of memory and a double HDMi port with split between sound and image.

Of course we immediately think of the PSX, the AV-centric PS2 that was only launched in Japan and knew little success there thanks to (amongst others) its high pricetag. The Japanese magazine estimates this new device would cost about 2.500 dollars. I doubt we'll ever get to see it arriving over here.
