AMD opens new factory in NY
The well-known chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced Saturday that they will invest no less than US$3,2 billion (about €2,55 billion) in a new factory. The new production lines will be established in the Nord of the state New York, more specifically in Saratoga.
The state New York itself invests about US$ 900 million to convince AMD to build their factories there. Employees will produce semi-conductors on silicon disks of 300 millimetres, with a line width of 32 nanometres or less.
It was only last month that AMD confirmed they were going to put US$2,5 billion in their existing factory in Dresden (Germany). Some simple math now learns us that AMD invests about US$5 billion in two months time to make the processors of the future.
If you have bought something of AMD lately, you can start wondering to which factory your money will be going. :)
