APB to get overhaul already

Posted on Tuesday, 13 July 2010 by Speed, source: APB
How do you know when a game failed? Well, if the devs are looking to make major changes only weeks after release, chances are pretty high that it isn't because of the success...

Real Time Worlds have updated the official site for their MMO action game APB with word that they're planning a major overhaul already with just about everything getting changed:
Vehicle Handling

We're already underway on a major overhaul to vehicle handling to make cars more responsive and less slippy overall. You'll still be able to power slide around corners in stylish fashion, but steering is more responsive overall and easier to get the hang of early on

Combat

We're looking at almost every aspect of combat - how it looks, feels and sounds, as well as weapon characteristics and tactics. Weapon changes will be put up on the Public Test World to get some feedback in due course.

Matchmaking

We're taking a look at both the way in which player threat is calculated and how mission offers are distributed to players to try and improve the matchmaking experience overall.

Camping

We'll be addressing a number of the worst camping spots in the game in an upcoming patch. We'll be tackling the rest on an ongoing basis.

Missions

Investigations are already under way into ways to make mission objectives more interactive and to try and add a bit more strategy to the actual missions themselves, not just the combat surrounding them.

Rulesets

We're currently looking at adding a 'newbie' ruleset to give players a safe place to learn the game against other new players, and of course we're still progressing work on the 'pure skill' ruleset that was mentioned towards the end of closed beta. The Chaos ruleset hasn't been forgotten about either.
According to the devs this is "just a sample of the things that are currently going on". Sounds to me like they're changing the entire game...

It's just adjustments. I don't think proof of a failed game. I play it and love it. Alot of these were actually planned for the game, but like any business, they have deadlines to meet. They had to focus on a solid game release, which they had. Now is the initial fine tuning. By your logic, every game that gets a patch after release has failed? That's pretty much every PC release ever eh.

Proof of a failure should be fact in a news report. Not assumption. This just makes you and Fragland look unprofessional.

Deadlines are the bane of the gaming industry. Too many companies afraid to delay their games for vital adjustments, just so they can make release dates.

The driving in this game was terrible, the missions too repetitive and boring, the combat and movement was slow and unresponsive.

I beta tested this game from the beginning, and these problems existed then...

God I hate seeing the whole 'missions are to repetitive' critique. It only proves that you completely missed the point of this game. Missions (objectives) are repetitive in Bad Company 2, or MW2 as well no?

It's the same thing, and RTW didnt make it a secret that APB is a shooter. The missions are to be viewed as objectives, or even game types like in and FPS. This isnt World of Warcraft. It's a balls out shooter. Just cause it has MMO in the title, and RPG's generally are the bread and butter of MMO's, doesnt mean that APB has to follow the mold does it?

Also, they are fine tuning driving mechanics. New changes should be on PTD soon.

Deadlines, like APB's, are based on money. Would you work for free just so some guy on Fragland will be more happy? They put out a solid release. Servers wernt crashing. Everything for the most part was pretty smooth, yet still the pessimist scurried around trying to find something to make the game look bad. Happens in every game these days unfortunately.
