Activision confirms end of Guitar Hero and True Crime

Posted on Thursday, 10 February 2011 by Speed, source: Fragland
We reported about it yesterday already and confirmation has been received now.

During its latest financials call, Activision has said that due to the decline in the music game genre, they've decided to completely disband their Guitar Hero business unit and stop development for their 2011 Guitar Hero game. Next to that, also development on True Crime: Hong Kong has been put on hold.
"At the same time, due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011. The company also will stop development on True Crime: Hong Kong™. These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences."
For their December quarter, the publisher noted GAAP net revenues were $1.43 billion compared to fourth-quarter 2009 net revenues of $1.56 billion, which is a GAAP loss per share of $0.20. Over the whole year, however, things looked pretty good: GAAP net revenues increased to $4.45 billion compared to $4.28 billion in 2009, while earnings per diluted share increased to $0.33, as compared with $0.09 per diluted share for 2009.
