Activision raises game price for next-gen

Posted on Friday, 23 September 2005 by Speed, source: TheStreet
Well, we knew it was coming but were still hoping it wouldn't happen. It seems that Activision will be the first to raise the price for games with the next-gen consoles.

Thestreet has word that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick wants to raise the retail price for games once the next-gen consoles are available:

Expanding on comments he had made previously, Kotick said this week that his company plans to boost the wholesale prices $10 per unit on top-line title games for next-generation consoles, such as Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 -- those titles sell for roughly $50

Mmmm, well, looking at the ammount of time spent developing a title it's no wonder that they're so expensive. In the past however, the time spent was the same (only the time went to storyline and gameplay instead of some retarded graphics engine tweaking and retweaking), but at least they made up for the price by selling the product in a nice box and with a nice color-printed manual etc...

The gaming-industry is making the jump to mass-industry here it seems...

They may have to spend more time and money themselves on dev with next gen, but that doesnt mean they should be charging more, they already charge too much.

Us british will be paying £45 per game, thats around $90, feel privaleged to be paying so much less.

This is not about the developers, but about the publishers (eg. EA, UBI, etc). They are some greedy corporated scum!
