Activision threatens to stop PS3 support
Due to the high cost of manufacturing Sony has been playing deaf to requests from publishers to lower the price of the PS3 but now Activision's CEO has had enough.
Times Online is reporting that Bobby Kotick, Activision's CEO, has openly declared that his company is thinking of ending support and development for Sony's console. According to him the PS3 is too expensive to develop for and both the X360 and Wii sell better.
That Kotick is currently playing some bluff game is clear though. Also at E3 he tried to make a similar move but the critical gamer can just as easily say that Activision is asking too much for the Guitar Hero games and the pieces of plastic you need to be able to play them. Also the many new episodes and the refurbishing with Greatest Hits can easily be added with a line of criticism.
Sony themselves didn't want to comment but don't seem all too impressed. They respect the opinion of their partners but it does remain a fact that compared to the competition the price of the PS3 remains high. A rumoured price drop coming Fall might solve that problem.

I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation. They have to cut the price, because if they don't, the attach rates are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony.
This would mean more profit for Xbox360 and Wii and if the PS3 doesn't become cheaper sales will decrease make the attach rate of the current userbase drop even further. That Kotick is currently playing some bluff game is clear though.
