Activision would like to raise game prices

Posted on Thursday, 6 August 2009 by Speed, source: VG247
During an investor call regarding the company's earnings, Wolfenstein CEO Bobby Kotick stated he would raise the price for games if he could.

During the call, an analyst asked a question regarding the price points of games on which both Mike Griffith from Activision and CEO Bobby Kotick answered. Kotick was all but unclear:
Michael J. Griffith

And then on the second question, Tony, on the pricing, we’ve had for all of our launch titles in the back half of this year, some of which contain peripherals, as you point out, very strong retailer acceptance and support for all parts of our plan, including our merchandising plans, our marketing programs, and our price points.

Robert A. Kotick
And Tony, you know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further.
I'm sure that if Kotick would get away with it, he would charge $5000 for a game.

dont they realise that the already high prices are giving people the excuse to pirate software. If they dropped the price they would sell more units.

Although that sounds like an empty statement with no real fact, I am sure that I read a news item here a few weeks ago that talked about the massive sales steam saw after dropping the price of some of the games, surely this should have been a wakeup call for the industry.

If games went up in price I'd probably be forced to find another hobby then. :(
