Age of Empires 3 picks nVidia

Good news for the graphics freaks amongst us, because the newest part in the Age of Empires franchise will work with DirectX 9, and will support Shader Model 3.0.

It's too bad, but only nVidia supports this technique at the moment, so expect a "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" intro movie. Not to fear though, even without Shader 3.0 this game will look good.

High Dynamic Range lighting, as featured in the latest Far Cry patch, will be used in the game to render the lush landscapes of the colonial age in which the game is set. Whilst Doom 3 had a hidden option to toggle self-shadowing, AOE3 will come with that feature fully built into the engine, meaning that ships and soldiers will be shaded more realistically than ever. We fully expect that this will be the first in a wave of DX9/SM3 announcements this year, as the in-game engines finally catch up to the hardware released last year.

Lets hope the system requirements aren't too high.

My computer seemed to play half life 2 fairly smooth; a couple of glitchy moments here and there, but for the most part the game runs perfect. I just hope age 3, with these top of the line graphics and 150 plus men on the screen at one time, will run smoothly. I can't wait to see what it will look like.
