Atari wants to cash in on Star Trek?

It seems that there's at least one publisher that still has money in its pockets and that company is none other than Atari! They've just announced they've acquired Cryptic Studios, the guys behind NCSoft's City of Heroes and City of Villains MMOs.

Furthermore, Cryptic is currently working on Champions Online and even more importantly, Star Trek Online

"The acquisition of Cryptic Studios brings to Infogrames an outstanding creative organisation, with a proven track-record of success in the fast-growing MMO category," said David Gardner, CEO of Infogrames/Atari in a statement. "Cryptic's success is founded on leading-edge technology and the vision of a seasoned executive management team.

A smart move from Atari. With a new Star Trek movie coming up, their sales will probably go sky-high if they manage to release Star Trek Online in the not too distant future
