Atari going to publish new Riddick game

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was one of the few games that succeeded in two major things, namely fit in perfectly with the story of the movie and at the same time deliver a high quality game.

A couple of months ago, developer Starbreeze Studios announced that they started on a remake of the game for next-gen console and PC under the new name The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena, but after the announcement it became awfully quiet. Now this silence has been broken with a press release of their new publisher Atari.

With a change of publisher there has also been some changes in development of the remake. Biggest difference is that it is no longer a remake, but will future a complete new story and online multiplayer.

Previously announced as a remake of hit title The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with added content, Atari can today reveal that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contains a brand new full-length campaign. This exciting announcement promises a title which will include the original game re-imagined for a whole new audience, an entirely new chapter in the Riddick saga and, for the first time, intense online multiplayer combat, making The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena a must-have experience for any fan of intense action gaming.

A release is expected to take place in the spring of 2009 and let us hope the game will be as successful as its predecessor :)

Wow. So this isn't butcher bay with an expansion but a whole new game along with butcher bay with updated graphics? Hopefully this game sparks more interest for another riddick movie.
