Atari has to fire people
Posted on Wednesday, 2 May 2007 by FroFro, source: GamesIndustry
It's not going all too well with publisher Atari. At the moment there are 320 men and women working there, but between now and 31st July 2007, 20% of that is getting fired.
David Pierce, president and CEO of Atari, thinks this is the best decision for the firm and its shareholders.
The restructuring costs are about 800,000 to 1,100,000 USD.

"We expect today's reorganisation will continue to reduce Atari's general and administrative cost," commented David Pierce, president and CEO.
"These actions, though difficult, are a significant first step in reorganising Atari and demonstrate our commitment to restoring shareholder value."

Ever heard of trade unions?
Been getting out of hand lately. I just found out that the legal limit of work per week in France is 35 hours. Which means if I have to work more, I CAN'T!
Good thing i'm not in France. Bloody socialists collaborating with trade unions making retarded laws.

Exactly.
If you watched the televised debate of Sarkozy vs Segolene last night, you'll see that one of the main points of sarkozy was to allow French workers to work to at least 38-40 hours per week but sanction a minimum of 20% increase per hour for the remaining hours over 35. While Segolene clearly said that it was a preposterous idea :)
I think the French have the shortest work week in the world, incredibly high unemployment benefits, and also one of the highest unemployment rates of all the Developed countries, Last I checked it was over 12%, or was that Belgium? No I think Belgium was a bit less.
