Atari sues over bad Alone in the Dark ratings?
It seems Atari doesn't like bad review ratings as they've started threatening European gaming sites with lawsuits for giving Alone in the Dark a bad score. Well, they're not saying it's because the game received a bad score of course, they're claiming the sites must have used an illegally obtained copy and used that for their reviews.
Meanwhile, Tor-Steinar Nastad Tangedal from Norwegian site Gamer.no has contacted Kotaku with a similar story:
So Atari is putting pressure on game sites that did not receive a copy of the game from Atari themselves. Since when do you need to obtain a copy directly from a pub
With Alone in the Dark being just about the only game being released by Atari this year that could actually make some big bucks, it doesn't look very good for the publisher
4Players' EIC Jörg Luibl says that Atari's lawyers have accused them of "breaking the law and violating the rights of their client (Atari)", all because 4Players reviewed the game prior to its release, but without using a copy sent to them by Atari. 4Players maintain that, like many other games not sent to them by publishers, they secured a copy via a "trusted dealer".
4Players.de, who gave AotD a meagre 68%, didn't in fact give the worst score up to now. Norwegian site Gamereactor.no gave a 3/10.Meanwhile, Tor-Steinar Nastad Tangedal from Norwegian site Gamer.no has contacted Kotaku with a similar story:
Gamer.no was the second publication in the world to publish a review, and we also gave it 3 out of 10. The review was based on a retail copy obtained from a store on Tuesday this week. Atari contacted us just minutes after it was published, claiming that our review is probably based on a preview or pirated copy, and requested it to be removed. We never removed it, of course.
Atari's comment on the matter: "No Comment".So Atari is putting pressure on game sites that did not receive a copy of the game from Atari themselves. Since when do you need to obtain a copy directly from a pub
