August sales: Sony starts spinning
NPD has released the August sales figures for North-America and while the Nintendo Wii took first position in hardware sales, Microsoft's X360 managed to still outsell Sony's PS3 with a ration of 2 to 1.
Wii sold 403.600 units, the DS did slightly less at 383.300 and Microsoft's X360 came in third with 276.700. Sony's old PS2 did quite good for a previous gen console with 202.000 units sold while PSP did 151.200 and the PS3 managed to end the list (GBA not listed) with only 130.600 consoles that got a new owner.
Hardware and software sales together did pretty well and had a 46% increase compared to the same period last year. In total almost a billion dollars revenue was reached.
With the PS3 selling least of all consoles, and the PSP doing only slightly better, you would think Sony had nothing to cheer about. Think again!
Well, it's always about what can make you happy. If the PS3 would have sold 1 console in July, and 2 in August, I'm sure someone would start raving about the 100% increase in sales ;)

Sony cited $340 million in sales as reason to be positive, stating that the PS3 "finished off the summer by maintaining a steady increase in units sold over pre-July numbers, with 130,623 units sold at retail for the month", representing a "61% lift at retail over the past two months”.

I don't know but I saw some sales numbers for the PS2 a few months ago and I was like "WTF?!?" So even tho Sony is bleeding from one hand (the PS3) they're still earning a decent buck from the PS2, I suppose those buying the PS2s also buy some games for it...
