Aussies ban Fallout 3?
Rumours are flying around that the Office of Film and Literature Classi15fication may very well ban sales of Fallout 3 in Australia due to drug abuse in-game.
The OFLC has stated to Gamespot that no official decision has been made but seeing their track record (Blitz: The League and Shellshock 2 both have been banned) it wouldn't be much of a surprise if Fallout 3 would get a similar treatment.
If a user on GameSpot PC Forums is to be believed, then Australia's ratings regime may be about to claim its highest-profile victim for 2008 so far. According to the original post, upcoming post-apocalyptic action-RPG Fallout 3 has been refused classification in Australia due to in-game drug use.
The original poster claims the in-game use of morphine has irked Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classi15fication (OFLC). Australia's game classification rules state that titles that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults" will be refused classification.
In Australia games can rank up to Age 15 (while movies and DVD's rank up to age +18) so if a game is found unsuitable for a 15 year old it gets banned. The original poster claims the in-game use of morphine has irked Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classi15fication (OFLC).
