BF2 open beta mod editor available
Posted on Saturday, 6 August 2005 by Ryuken, source: Electronic Arts
Two times Electronic Arts stated that the editor for Battlefield 2 would be released 'in a few days'. We're two weeks further now and at last everyone can enjoy modding this pleasant (but still not perfect) multiplayer shooter.
You can download it directly from their FTP server through the link displayed on this page (49 MB). You might also want to create your own light maps (though it isn't required to be able to play), therefore some samples must be used, they can be found on the same page which I just mentioned (700 MB download though).
It is still a beta version so there might be some errors left but these will be adressed in the future, says EA.
Mods for now will only be able to function on non-dedicated servers until the 1.03 patch arrives.
Within a couple of days (hmm, are they really going for such a promise again?) an 'Official Battlefield 2 Mods home page' will go live. It is a nice effort to gather all the knowledge and questions from the community about modding in one single place, along with a lot of guides and more documentation. As a temporary placeholder these forums have been put up if you already have questions about the editor.

Keep in mind that we are considering this release "Beta" software, so it’s still a little rough around the edges, though we’ve worked out many of the kinks. Also, though most core functionality is editable as of this release, there are several more advanced areas of the tools that are still being worked on. One example of of a tool to be delivered in a future update is the Single Player Editor.
