Bad Company 2 gets dedicated servers, on PC
It has been a while since we heard from the famed Battlefield series. We knew a new title was in production, but there was not a whole lot of news about it.
The complete feature list still remains a secret for now, but here and there tidbits do get revealed. One of the things we found out for example are that the game will have dedicated server support. Infinity Ward got a lot of sour comments for their decision not to include similar support for their upcoming Modern Warfare 2, DICE is keen to bridge that gap.
What does stand out however, is how only the PC version of the game will receive this option. On the Battlefield forums you can read the explanation zerk16, Battlefield's Community Managar, gives for this choice.
To see how all of this comes together we'll have to wait until March 2010, that's when the game is slated for release.

While consoles may get the game on a certain date, PC users typically have to wait much longer for the same game, but in turn, they get the game for a lower price because there are no licensing fees like consoles have, and typically they get a few more perks thrown in compared to consoles just for good measure. PC customers are a much tougher crowd then consoles are so we have to appeal to them in as many ways as possible, but why not? They deserve it after having a steady history of constantly getting the shaft. Also on a side note, If it wasn’t for the PC platform you wouldn’t be playing the game on consoles right now.
Some of the other features PC users will get include the ability to go prone, and the option to play a multiplayer map with more than 24 people at the same time. To see how all of this comes together we'll have to wait until March 2010, that's when the game is slated for release.
