Battle Isle : Dark Space Interview
The guys from PC.IGN have been busy talking with Blue Byte's Richard Lyle about the upcoming online-only strategy game Battle Isle : Dark Space[BLOCK]Richard Lyle: You start by selecting a team and a ship and you are then part of that team. Obviously there will be text chat and we're going to include voice chat too. There is also a built-in command system where you can click on another player and issue orders to that player so they can accept orders. So you can meet other players that way.
There are basically three ways that player interaction works. Firstly, there is the good old text-to-text chat where you type in messages. Also, we've got an interface built in for telling somebody to go attack something or capture a planet or defend some guy or whatever. The third way we're going to provide - for people with the bandwidth - is voice communication, so they'll be able to talk to each other.
This is a team-oriented game. It's not like Quake or Descent where you come in and you're off on your own. In this, you can pull up the navigation display and see all the locations of your team-mates; you can also see what they see.[/BLOCK]
