Battlefield 2 and SF patch 1.2 finally out!

EA has released the 1.2 patch for Battlefield 2. The fixes are plenty, the download size isn't (for once). The incremental patch, which updates version 1.12 of BF2 and also Special Forces if you have it installed, is only 82 MB large.

Download the v1.12 to v1.2 update from our fileservers.

And here is the big (350 MB) 1.2 patch version which updates the unpatched retailvarsion of BF2. For now, here are the patch notes:

Bug Fixes & Gameplay Tweaks

* Dolphin Diving is no longer possible
* Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
* "Prone Spamming" is now fixed
* "Sprint exploit" is now fixed
* Helicopters now carry 8 missiles rather than 14 (although not in Special Forces - Andy)
* TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
* Damage decreased from M134
* Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
* AA missile lock has been improved
* All support kit weapons have been adjusted
* All Sniper rifles have been adjusted
* Sa80 has been adjusted
* G3A3 has been adjusted
* Reload while sprinting has been enabled
* Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use.
* SCAR-L reload sound has been fixed
* Server setting to allow friendly fire to be off on mines without affecting other weapons.
* Server search filters now work properly
* Mines can no longer be destroyed with other explosives
* Bug in MP7 fire rate fixed. Ammo count increased and mag count and damage decreased
* Flash bang effect radius decreased
* Added unlocks for Sniper and AT kits
* Fixed a bug in terrain rendering with night vision, whereby terrain was still dark in dark areas.
* Fixed a bug whereby mods that are not bf2 or not xpack permutate shaders every time a level is loaded.
* Fixed a bug whereby non-xpack mods cannot use xpack shaders.
* Fixed bug in TV guided missiles of Havoc helicopter
* The LAV25 no longer shoots through penetrable materials.
* Vehicles no longer disappear when viewed from some vehicles with a HUD (e.g. Tanks).
* Performance gain found in static mesh rendering.
* Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced.
* Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum distance.
* Decreased Flashbang count from 4 to 3
* Replaced the existing Czech Flag with the correct one in the front end

Expansion of Ranks

Ranks have now been expanded to allow for players to rank up to General

New Feature: Visible UAV

The UAV that is placed by Commanders will now include a visual element. An actual UAV will appear within the UAV detection radius and circle the area. Players will be able to shoot it down, bringing the UAV detection to a premature end. The Commander will be able to continue placing UAVs once the timer resets, as per current design.

Known Issue: ATI Crossfire Cards

Crossfire cards with 256 Megs of memory, running in CrossFire mode will run out of memory at very high resolution settings. On very high resolutions, such as 1920x1440 with 6x antialiasing. In CrossFire mode the ATI drivers are more restrictive about where resources are allocated, and as a result run out of memory sooner than with a single board. This running out of memory causes the device context creation to fail. The result is that the game just sits in a loop with a black screen. If you experience a context creation failure change your resolution to a lower setting (e.g. 1024x768 or even lower).

You mean skilled players that took the time to learn how to play the game will be penalised in favour of all the little whiney kids that just want to press E to enter a AA gun and then press there mouse button when a rocket locks on. Oh wow how skilled they will be.

That AA rocket needed a boost... it frequently misses planes flying low and slow in a straight line in it's current form...

Thank you Fragland for doing the job that the multi billion dollar company that is EA have trouble doing. They don’t seem to be able to host a patch where the server doesn't fail or you download at like 20kb a second. In fact they have locked there European forum because it can't cope when patches get released and people want to comment it crashes. This company is laughable at the moment if the patch turns out to be good which I doubt it will it would have taken them a year to fix a game that in my opinion should only just be getting released now. It won’t end here the next thing will be to take out the helicopters and planes and let all new players spawn in a vehicle of there choice. Oh now you can rank upto general I wondered how they were going to keep people playing on there over priced ranked servers for longer lol. Like I said they are a joke but the trouble is most people don’t get it.

It really isn't about skill, pre-1.2 the aircrafts were very overpowered, jets were totally invincible actually. Now in 1.2 those jets at least 'can' be killed but the AA-turrets are still not too powerful and quite vulnerable ('skilled' pilots just need to know where those turrets are located and fire their machineguns on it, the slow reload and low rocket-number of turrets still don't cope with that). Choppers maybe had a nerf that is too big (lower hitpoints AND less rockets) but at least two tanks shells can kill a Cobra now, like it should be, unlike before the 1.2 update.

The issue with the improved AA are choppers not planes. Planes were overpowered I think, because they were invincible. Thing was though that almost every pilot was crap, I only know two plane pilots that are actually annoying enough to make me worried about "planes being invincible" and I have played many. Most pilots seem to just fly into choppers for points. Anyway, choppers were already very vulnerable against an organised team, two people working together can pretty easily take one down. The problem is most of the whiners can not grasp the idea of teamplay, that this is a teamgame, they see a chopper and think "OMG I want those kills!" and get upset when they alone cant just own it with their weapons. In clan matches choppers were perfectly balanced, where a team has skill and is organised against them. On pubs they used to rape because there was no organisation. Unfortunately now they are balanced for pubs for matches they will be a joke.

C4 at flags should be atomatically nutrilized as SOON as the flag goes nutral , this is a GREAT IDEA so those who plant and run to other part of map can't just blow the opponate away with out being involved .... you should have stayed in sight of the flag to do your dirty work.

I thought bf2 was supposed to be as realistic as possible. C4 at flags being nutralized as soon as the flag is nutralized is unrealistic. But the idea of nutralizing explosives is cool because it gives other players a chance against Special ops or any other kit that has stationary explosives.
