Battlefield 2 patch expected next week

A new community update from Electronic Arts has word on the first patch for the highly successful (and wildly debated) shooter Battlefield 2.

Version 1.01 will offer fixes to the very obvious and most annoying issues gamers have experienced till this far with BF2. Check the most important ones out below:

-Fixed issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.

We've added some new functionality and buttons to the Multiplayer Browser that make finding an open game of Battlefield 2 much, much easier. Issues users have encountered involving zero ping servers or browser hangs have all be addressed.

-Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.

Some functions previously were not available to be rebound in the Controls Options menus. These items have been added to make rebinding of functions much easier.

-Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB

Users who rebind the Left Mouse Button to "Move forward" rejoice!

The patch should be out some time next week.

EA/Dice are also aware of the bugged Linux server build (which made it impossible to be a ranked server or players wouldn't have a problem to get kicked with each map change):

DICE has finished work on a replacement build and QA has been working hard to validate something that we can release to the community. Our goal is to get a fully operational version of the Linux server out to the Community ASAP. Stay tuned to this spot for updates.

Furthermore, the BF2 Editor will see a release some time in July, or better said, an open beta of this Mod Development Toolkit will be out by that time.

Apparently, the 'Advanced Tactical Center' (ATC) for Battlefield 2 is released today too. This tool allows for more communication options in your squad and even the possibility to create and manage your squad before even joining a server. More info about ATC on the website of the creators (Foolish Entertainment).

Hurray! This is the only game I own where the retail version plays worse than the demo!! The multiplayer demo played like a dream, bought the retail version on release and it lags so, so bad.....get fed up eventually and give up. I have a 2mb connection with a 1 month old cutting edge pc which runs everything at break neck speed. There can be no excuses for releasing to the public what can be best described as a beta version game, the testing prior to release would have shown the major problems that this game suffers, especially the game spy atempt at a game browser, it is so bad it is laughable. I only hope that EA games learn from this and ensure more testing is done in the future and that a fairly comprehensive patch is relaeased that sorts out ping issues, lagginess and everything else that spoils what could be a really amazing game.
