BioWare: PC gaming is all but dying
It seems that lately all we hear on PC gaming is pretty much all bad news. If the sector isn't too busy getting pirated by just about anybody, or getting 1UP'ed by console games and their mediocre ports there is no doubt some influential CEO stating that developing for the PC is just bad economics.
In comes Ray Muzyka, CEO of Bioware Corp. to tell us 'we've all got it wrong'. In his interview with CVG he stated that PC is doing fine on a number of fronts. It is far from dying, it is even growing, just under a slightly altered model.
In comes Ray Muzyka, CEO of Bioware Corp. to tell us 'we've all got it wrong'. In his interview with CVG he stated that PC is doing fine on a number of fronts. It is far from dying, it is even growing, just under a slightly altered model.
"I think there are more people playing PC games and more dollars being spent on the PC space than ever before, but it's taking a different form,"
One doesn't really have to be a rocket scientist to figure out Ray is referring to popular MMO's like World of Warcraft and those other ones played by the 50 people in the world that don't play WoW. Next to those addiction MMO games, he puts the casual and web-based games."It's not a bad thing if people want to play more types of games than they did 20 years ago, it's natural and normal as the audience and technology evolves... As creators we have to adapt to that and continue to make sure that we're satisfying the audience, but it doesn't mean we have to compromise."
It also seems that Bioware is preparing themselves for the new PC gaming landscape by covering enough genres with Dragon Age: Origins together with Mass Effect 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. In other news:
