Blade of Darkness Preview
Codemasters are going to do some huge releasing the next couple of months, including games like Colin McRae 2.0, Insane and Severance : Blade of Darkness.
Gameloft UK have whipped up a preview of this last title which I might say is looking FAN-TAS-TIC ![BLOCK]Once you've entered the game, the quality of the graphics really does astound - the levels look crisp and clear, with beautifully done textures and superb environmental effects - such as the exceptionally nicely rendered (if somewhat unrealistic) reflective water. Most impressive of all are the shadow effects, which are generated dynamically and are among the most impressive we've ever seen in a game. Not only is your shadow cast from static lights like the sun or torches on the walls (a perfectly accurate shadow too, it has to be said, which flows correctly onto different surfaces, and scales properly when you move) but you can even pick up a torch and carry it around with you as a source of illumination - and the shadows on the level will be cast differently according to the movement of the torch. It may not sound like much, but when you see this effect in action it really is quite amazing, especially compared to the lighting systems seen in most modern 3D games. Best of all, your flaming torch can be used to set fire to other things, or even to toast the occasional enemy…[/BLOCK]
