Ver interesting read over at Shacknews for the World of Warcraft fans.

Jeffrey Kaplan was a very busy man last night because after dishing out some critic on his former team, he also found the time to analyse some of the biggest problems with the quest system in their dominating MMO.

Here's the list with a small explanation:

"The Christmas Tree Effect": 'running to minimap dots without guidance'

Too Long, Didn't Read: 'quest descriptions too wordy'

Medium Envy: 'make games, not books'

Mystery: 'what am I supposed to do?'

Poorly Paced Quest Chains: 'spreading quests over 15 or more levels'

Gimmick Quests: 'vehicle quests are more fun for designer than for player'

Bad Flow: 'bad iteration of quest types'

Collection Quest Mistakes: 'bad mob and item placement'

Why Am I Collecting This Shit?: 'Why doesn't a mob drop a paw at every kill?'

I really do agree with the collection quest issues. Why doesn't a mob drop its paws every time you kill it? And why the hell doesn't it drop two paws? Needing to collect five items with a drop rate of less than 1% that don't really seem rare really got my blood boiling back when I was still playing.
