Blizzard founders jump ship

Posted on Tuesday, 1 July 2003 by Speed, source: Fragland
Reuters is reporting that the key founders of Blizzard Entertainment along with Bill Roper have decided to leave the company
The high-profile departures come at a crucial time for Vivendi Universal Games, which is the object of a possible sale by French media conglomerate Vivendi Universal.

In a statement, Blizzard Entertainment said Blizzard North co-founders Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer and David Brevik, along with a fourth employee, Bill Roper, "resigned from the company to pursue other opportunities."
The games that are currently under development will probably not be harmed by this, but I think this will definitely be of influence for Blizzard's game quality towards the future.

they're the founders of blizzard north, which is only responsible for the diablo franchise. thus, the starcraft and warcraft franchises will not be affected in any way

Insanity: untrue. Bill Roper is the vice-president of Blizzard (Blizzard South as well as Blizzard North) and all 4 of them play a large role in every aspect of Blizzard. They have always been game designers. They have helped designing all Blizzard's games, including Warcraft/Starcraft. I expect a lot of key Blizzard employees to follow them to their new company.

actually, you are mistaken:

blizzard removed the links that post points to, but managed to read the article before that and it clearly said (among other things) that those who quit are only reponsible for diablo and that no other franchises will be affected

Nope Insanity. That's bullshit. To start with: there has always been cooperation between the 2 Blizzard offices (North and South): they test each others' games and comment on them. Certainly the big guys at each office communicated a lot.
Also, Bill Roper is not someone from Blizzard North... he's one of the most important persons in Blizzard as a whole, and HAS helped design both Diablo and Warcraft.
