Blu-ray PS3 problems not due to firmware

Sony has told Eurogamer that firmware updates can't influence the working of the Blu-ray drive. This statement comes after a lot of PS3 owners started reporting issues with Blu-ray after installing the 3.01 firmware.

The problem that PS3 owners are reporting following 3.01 is "not an issue with the firmware".

Almost all users have made it clear they didn't experience any issues before the update but now get lockups when playing movies or games.

Sony's customer service is suggesting that as a solution people send their console without further explanation. If your warranty is void you need to pay a standard intervention fee of over 100 euros for this repair.

Been planning to get a PS3 sometime soon and this just makes me nervous to get one now. O_O
Heard Uncharted's been glitching and that's the first title I want to buy for it.
