Breed demo next year

Posted on Tuesday, 17 December 2002 by Speed, source: Fragland
Over at the CDV boards is a thread where is noted that the demo for Breed will not be released until next year.
Here's a quote from one of the moderators, giving some info :
Hmm, I'm still not sure what I'm allowed to say, but basically the delay is not wholly of our (Brat's) doing. We will now be adding in a whole load of cool effects and extra graphical 'oomph' to the game before releasing any playable version of it. While it may be more beneficial to nVidia users, these new effects will largely be DirectX 9 things I think, so any new-generation card will be able to handle most of the new stuff.

Of course, older cards will still see improvements and some stunning graphics, but those with the latest hardware will really get to see their new babies working well.

People seem to think we're abandoning all other graphics cards and I think that's largely down to the shambolic way this has all happened, for which I apologise on behalf of Brat even though there's not a lot we could do about it. We have a range of ATI cards in the office and a Matrox Parhelia for the specific purpose of making sure that Breed will still run - and look stunning - on all capable cards.

I know many of you would rather have the demo as it is now and then get a patch to add all this new graphical wizardry, but if you look at it from CDV's point of view (and ours to an extent, despite us wanting the demo out asap) the demo is supposed to show off how cool the finished game is going to be by giving you a glimpse of the gameplay, graphics, etc. If the demo is released with its current graphics it'll look great and on a par with most games coming out, but wait a little longer and the demo will wipe the floor with just about everything else out there - much better for you as you get a nicer, smoother playing game and better for us because we get better reviews/previews.
