As our fellow crewmember daffeh already mentioned a couple of hours ago, a new timer had appeared on the Bungie website, which was supposed to reveal the new project that they were working on. This is also what happened a couple of minutes ago, although the information that is available is very scarce.

As daffeh already guessed, the new game is linked to the Halo franchise, but the main difference it seems will be the exclusion of Master Chief.

Currently there is little known, since the only thing that Bungie released was a small teaser trailer. In this trailer we see several drop pods, similar to those in Halo 2 entering the Earth's atmosphere.

Other fragments show a ruined city which seems to be New Mombassa, the city that was destroyed by a Covenant ship that warped out in the middle of the city. This might also explain the gigantic blue explosion. Finally the trailer shows a couple of images from an artificial intelligence who it seems is in charge of the city's energy and communication.

This all is shown in a more drawn look instead of the usual computer animated trailers. Let's hope that we'll find out the name of this title real soon and that we'll find out more about the story and gameplay.

UPDATE

It seems the new Halo game will actually be an expansion of Halo 3 if we can believe the description of the trailer on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

In other words, we shouldn't expect a complete new game, since it will probably use the same graphics engine that was used for Halo 3.



Some people on the internet also found a possible release date of this expansion with the help of the trailer that was released a couple of hours ago. The game would be available in stores from 6th January 2009. The again this date might mean something else, so we can't be 100% sure.
