Gamenews is gamenews is gamesnews ... and than there's this kind of news. The kind that gets your internal engine revving at high rpm's. News that grabs you by your manlyhood and urges you to push just a little harder.

Racing fans rejoice! An excellent pressrelease (in dutch) arrived in our mailbox just a couple of minutes ago. Colin McRae 04 will have the full throttle support of Creatives EAX Advanced 4.0 HD-technology.

What does that mean? Well, not only will we be able to enjoy the excellent rally driving-experiences (check out the demo version here) of Codemasters' latest - but the experience will be augmented to a higher level by the tremendous EAX 4.0 sound levels (remember Lara Croft: Angel of Darkness ? The EAX sound was the only high-quality element of that 'game').

It all comes down to this: because of the so-called 'Environment Panning', your cars enginesounds will reflect in accordance to where you steer your car. Not only that, the soundtechnology used is 'case-sensitive'. Which means that you'll have a complete other auditive experience on the track in Tokyo than in the Rally of Sweden. Why? Because different tracks means different obstacles means different sound reflections!

Now, there is a small catch. Every pc version of the game will be equiped with this soundtechnology, but not all soundcards will be able to handle all this auditive info. If you want the enjoy the game to its fullest extent, you'll need a 24-bit Advanced HD soundcard like the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy ZS (dutch link) or higher. Those babies can be hooked up to Creatives Inspire T7700 series (or higher - and more expensive :) (dutch link).

That's right... Colin McRae 04 on your pc ... with 7.1 sound ... the best there is. Hmmmm, sweeet.
Here's the advert.

7.1 is useless, its a sales trick, its just an extra rear-mid speaker. Same as 6.1
