CES Another E3 contestant?

Posted on Friday, 11 August 2006 by Speed, source: Fragland
The CEA, the organisation that does the yearly CES (Consumer Electronics Show) has sent out word that they're looking into expanding and starting up a West Coast event in late Summer 2007 to fill the gap that E3 left when it got scaled down.

“Since ESA decided to eliminate the E3 event in its known format, we have been deluged with inquiries on whether we could fill the tradeshow needs of smaller video entertainment companies,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. “Our executive board met yesterday and unanimously asked staff to explore ways that we can help the gaming community.”

Before E3 started, CES was the biggest show where games would be introduced so I guess they're looking into whether or not they can take that position again.

Whoever made the stupid decision to ditch E3, needs some serious beating. E3 WAS and will ALWAYS be the source to look for, in all that is games.

Really sad to see it go.

Now everybody that hosts news about games, will be forced to go to multiple events to get the latest in games/gaming. Just suxx111oo1! :(

Anonymous: actually, E3 is going to be scaled down and be targeted more towards media as it should be. From the 60.000 visitors, I would bet the big majority would be retailers and distributors so media coverage is supposed to remain the same.

Too bad for the general public who wanted to attend though, as those will no longer have any possibility and indeed will have to go to other events.

At least, I hope that's what ESA is going for.
