CS 1.6 Beta shot down

Posted on Friday, 17 January 2003 by peng, source: Fragland
The new fantastic system called "Steam" that would allow every frantic CS/HL-fan to download their patches from a single site with a 500Mbits connection has crashed already... And it didn't even release the official patch. As a result of this, the release of the CS Beta 1.6 patch has been cancelled untill further notice...
The BETA release of Steam 2.0, which allows access to Counter-Strike 1.6 BETA, has been suspended. Due to some members of the gaming press leaking copies of Steam, the 500 megabit content servers have been filled to their capacity. To be fair, if Steam couldn't handle an unofficial release it probably wouldn't have done well with an official release either.
I guess they didn't expect that silly mod called "CounterStrike" (say what?) would be so popular, oh well, better luck next time I'd say.
