Canadian judge rules file-swapping legal
At first I thought it was an Aprils-fools joke, but it's not. Also, it isn't really gaming related, but something that is on the mind of a lot of our visitors apparently.
A Canadian federal court has ruled that sharing music-files with P2P (peer to peer) programs such as Kazaa are not illegal under current Canadian law. Judge Konrad von Finckenstein (cool name, btw) said the following:

So, untill Canadian lawmakers change the law, why not rent some fastspeed hosting in Canada and store your mp3 archive there ?

"I cannot see a real difference between a library that places a photocopy machine in a room full of copyrighted material and a computer user that places a personal copy on a shared directory linked to a P2P service."
Needless to say, this is a blow to the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) who sought severe penalties for the alleged 'copyright-infringers-criminals'. More info can be found here, here and here.
