Capcom blames piracy for lesser DMC4 PC sales
Posted on Saturday, 2 August 2008 by Speed, source: Capcom Unity
Capcom VP/Unity godfather Christian "Sven" Svensson updated his blog with word that according to him piracy is the main reason Devil May Cry 4 is selling not as well as expected on PC.
Sven: I'm not sure about how Capcom in general feels but It's not doing as well as I would like in the US at retail. It's such a good version and it really deserves better sales. I know it's getting pirated to hell and back (it was up on torrents literally the day it shipped).
I guess just about any PC game that gets released is available as torrent on the day of release so I don't really follow his reasoning. It's not because a game is available on torrent that sales would be much better if it wasn't in my opinion. In other news:

I don't blame piracy for DMC4 doing badly. Sure it's easier to pirate pc games but all games are pirated, psp, xbox, they all get pirated. Hear me out though, I think DMC4 didn't do so well because... hmm let me think... DMC started out on the playstation, so of course that's where 99% of the DMC players would be.
I dont really agree with that, that 2 generations ago so you cant really say because someone played DMC on a ps1 they will own a ps3.
Also, I would say piracy has a good amount to do with this game selling poorly. Any single player PC game will always get raped by piracy. The argument is there that people can pirate console games, but its its much more difficult and requires an amount of effort most people arent willing to put forth. Pirating an offline PC game is much more simpler and theres no risk of getting banned from say xbox live.
