Church vs. Sony: apologies not enough

Week 2 of the discussion and it looks like the end isn't near at all. As it happens, the Church of England thanks Sony for the apologies, but for them it's not enough.

They are against violence and especially the use of weapons within the Cathedral, so they have invited Sony for a meeting. Their demand stays the same: they want the game removed from the stores. If you ask us, Sony will have to offer them some money first. That's what they call a "substantial donation"...

The reply of the Church:
We acknowledge the admission by Sony that the building in the game is Manchester Cathedral. We thank Sony for the apology they have made.

However, we do not move from the position that we are against violence and especially the gun violence seen in this portrayal of the Cathedral.

We are pleased that Sony wish to come and meet with us in Manchester as today we offered them such an invitation.

In the meeting with Sony we will discuss our outstanding demands, how this game came to be produced and where the images of the Cathedral came from.

lmfao agreed

Its really a win-win situation, Sony gets more PR, and the Church is in the news for something other then molesting little boys. Although anyone with half a brain can see that the church's claim is bogus.

If I didn't know better I'd say Sony may be going for some GTA style advertisement and that this whole thing is a fraud for more media attention.

Tell me where I'm wrong. The Church was quite frequently on the News for molesting little boys- FACT
Sony has first hand experienced strong success of a video game due to its highly controversial PR- FACT

The rest is just speculation as to how this could easily be an arranged Win-Win situation between both parties. The Church puts themselves in a position where it appears they are standing against a violent video game in order to preserve good morals. But there not, there just picking on this game because of some scenery. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first or the last game to have a church looking building in it along with violence. So there claim on this issue is fake because they've let it happen so many times before and will probably let it happen again in the future.

Sony as a company comes off as more appealing to western cultures because there response shows that they have a strong sense of respect for the Church. But at the same time their most anticipated game gets the benefit of controversial PR, which we all know helped GTA sales. People get excited when they play a game that was "almost banned" and those who were thinking about buying it will now most definetly buy it to see what all the fuss was about. Maybe a last ditch effort to boost sales of what should have been their best selling game.

We've all seen this type of thing before, but why the Church? Well it almost guarantees that it would be a high profile conflict and who knows maybe some atheists out there are going to buy the game just so they can stick it to the man.

Atheists are generally people who are more intelligent and capable of independant thinking.

It's not like an Atheist to go out and buy something just to show the church "who's boss". That's just childish.

That may apply to you but I've met a few who don't fit that description too well, thats also why I said "some", indicating less then most.
