Class action lawsuit over Sony's "don't sue us" policy

Posted on Friday, 23 December 2011 by Speed, source: Gamespot
In a rather cynical move, a class action lawsuit has been started against Sony Entertainment for changing their policy which resulted in not being able to start a class action lawsuit against the company.

Apparently, a Northern California man has decided to not agree with Sony's change of their terms of use and has taken action. Legal action.
The suit alleges that Sony engaged in unfair business practices by forcing consumers to either give up their right to file a class-action lawsuit or give up access to the online gaming network they effectively paid for when they purchased the hardware.

The suit says Sony buried the clause section describing the changes near the bottom of a 21-page form viewable through the PS3 and neglected to post an easily accessible version of the form online, even though it had done so with past user agreement updates.
Users could opt out of the clause, but only by writing to Sony within 30 days. For reference: most people only noticed the change after those 30 days almost expired.

Will be interesting to see what happens with this case. Sony getting sued for adding a clause to their terms of service that prevents users from starting up a class action lawsuit against them. A hilarious ending of the year! :)
