Codemasters sues Netdevil over Jumpgate Evolution

Posted on Tuesday, 7 December 2010 by Speed, source: IncGamers
We're all wondering what's happening with NetDevil's MMO Jumpgate Evolution, and apparently so is Codemasters. To get a status update, the publisher however hasn't asked the devs but decided to go to court.

On December 1st Codemasters has filed suit against developer NetDevil and its parent company, Gazillion, for breach of contract by not releasing the game before February 24th, 2009.

Codemasters issued the following statement:
Codemasters has filed a Complaint with the federal court in San Francisco against Gazillion and NetDevil. This is a public document readily available to the press. The allegations in the Complaint are clear and self-explanatory and address issues related to the development of Jumpgate Evolution. During the course of the litigation other documents will become part of the court’s public records further detailing the respective positions of the parties. On the advice of Codemasters’ US attorneys, Codemasters has no further comment at this time.
The publisher is seeking around $1.4 million in costs and you can check the court filing right here.

May 27th, 2009, Netdevil's Scott Brown said that they wouldn't release Jumpgate Evolution until it was "done":
"Until we, and you, are happy that the game fully meets all of those requirements we won’t release it."
Guess their dedication to quality is going to cost them a bit.

Saying the publisher hasn't (think you meant haven't) asked the devs, is not really true, as they have been asking them about it for nearly 2 years now, that's why they have went to court. Also the $1.4 million is not costs, that's money codemasters paid upfront to netdevil, the costs have still to be added onto that.

Another point you're missing is Scott Brown was the president and founder of netdevil until he quit about a week ago.

I'm a nobody and I know more about this than you do, and you are meant to be reporting on it.

I quote the source:
Codemasters are seeking around 1.4 million USD in costs from NetdDevil for failing to honour the contract and deliver/release the game on or before 24 February 2009
About the "asking"... well, I thought it would be clear that that was more sarcasm than anything else. Guess it wasn't.

We indeed don't follow up on each change in personnel of every company on a daily basis, but we also said that Brown stated that back in 2009 so in all fairness the statement is correct as it stands.

Finally: "publisher" is not plural so it's "hasn't and not "haven't". If I would have said "the publisher's people", then it would have been "haven't".
