Crackdown devs wanted 200 achievements

Crackdown, an action game that is looking more promising by the day, not just because of the included Halo 3 betastest, was slated to contain no less than 200 achievements. Microsoft refused, however.

David Jones of Real Time Worlds asked an exception to the rule, but he didn't get further than the recently adjusted 80 achievement limit.

"They were only allowing 50, and we were saying, 'Oh, that's going to cripple us,'" RTW's David Jones explained. "Eventually they announced they were going to a higher number." That number was 80, which Jones says is Microsoft's new maximum.

For now, there are only 43 achievements in the game, totalling 900 gamerpoints. The remaining 100 points will be made available through -free- downloadable content later on.

Jones also informs us that he thinks it's a good idea the Halo 3 beta was added.

"We kind of knew 'Crackdown' would need as much help as it could get to get into players' hands," Jones said. "Like we've always said: It's a game player's game. It's not something that's going to sell in screenshot. So that was good."

According to him, it's a game that should be played first, before you can truly appreciate it. The XBL demo should give a good idea of what's to come.

After watching the achievments trailer for Crackdown it looks like this could be one of the few games that has achievments that are fun to go for.

Most of the achievments they show you in the trailer look like the sort of stuff you would try and do anyway just for fun.

Getting to the top of your agent building is something i did in the demo just to see if you could and i spent ages just doing backflips and barrel rolls in the agent suv once it was maxed out.

Im not a big fan of the whole achievment thing anyway but this looks like it could be a good use of the system for a change.

So is this game any good? Just some of the screenshots look a bit, lame.. yet what I hear about the game sounds good.

David Jones does say above that its not a game that will sell in screenshot, you have to play it and see it running.

Is it a wicked game Drofder and great fun to play and when you do actually see it running you'll see how nice it is, its got a very unique graphical look to it, it is cell shaded but it doesnt look really cartoony like Jet Set Radio does.

Everyone i know who downloaded the demo thinks its great, honestly i havent heard anyone say they didnt like it.

Check out the game proper or the demo but dont rely on the screenshots.
It is a brilliant game and i cant wait to get the full version in two weeks time.
